WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe there is one God found in three persons known as the trinity.

The Bible is God’s inspired word and found to be without error. Salvation is possible only through the shed blood of Jesus Christ and received by accepting Him as your personal Lord and Savior.

1

We hold the New Testament as our guidebook for living, affirming with it the need for lifelong and faithful study of the Scriptures. Brethren believe that God has revealed an unfolding purpose for the human family and the universe through the Hebrew Scriptures (or Old Testament), and fully in the New Testament. We hold the New Testament as the record of the life, ministry, teaching, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and of the beginnings of the life and thought of the Christian church.

2

The Church of the Brethren is a historic peace church. We believe “that war or any participation in war goes against the teachings and the example of Jesus Christ”.

3

We believe each Christian has been called to develop friendships with people outside the church and introduce them to their friend and Savior Jesus Christ.

4

We believe followers of Jesus should be brought into a closer relationship to God through discipleship. We will work toward equipping people to live the life of faith that God desires for each of us.

5

We believe God has called us into a lifestyle of worship. We strive to give God our best as we come together in community worship. Our worship involves knowing God, praising God, and serving God.

6

We believe God loves all mankind and sin separates us from Him. We are called to love the sinner and hate the sin. We will teach the standard God desires us to live through the example set by Jesus Christ, His Son.

7

We believe in the value of all people. We will bring people into a loving church atmosphere that loves, cares for, and provides strength and support for their needs.

8

We believe followers of Jesus should serve out of joy. We will guide individuals in finding their spiritual gifts then train and equip people to use those gifts in the appropriate ministry.

9

We believe in the Biblical definition of marriage being between a man and a woman. We will also strive to educate, strengthen, support, and nurture every person that walks through the doors of PCOB. We are a church that loves all people.

10

We believe the church should be culturally relevant by being practical in it’s teaching and willing to change in its style without compromising the Word of God.

11

We believe prayer has the power to release the miraculous. Opportunities shall be given to allow the hand of God to bring spiritual, physical, and emotional healing to individuals.
