THE SWEETEST CHURCH IN PLYMOUTH
"What message is God sending you because of the honey dripping in your sanctuary?" the ABC57 news reporter asked me. That's a good question, I thought. I wish I knew why this had to happen just when we'd gotten our roof project completed and were ready to begin using our projection system. A few weeks earlier I had shared with the congregation that because of the honey problem, we could now rightfully claim to be the "sweetest church in Plymouth." But the reporter's question got me to thinking about what it would actually mean for us to be the "sweetest church in Plymouth."
The Pilot News article headline that came before the TV interview read
"Sweetest Church in Plymouth Seeks Answer to Sticky Problem."
Yes, the honey is a problem, but is it also God's way of getting our attention
for a good purpose?
I was reminded daily of honey even before the honey started dripping in our
sanctuary because I have a picture hanging in my office with these words from
Psalm 119:103
"How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth."
I believe that one of the messages God might be sending to us in this sticky
situation is to pay attention to His words. We're going to need those words to
guide us in the coming year as we work with a consultant who will challenge us
to implement changes that will help us to grow as a church.
God is always speaking. The question is, are we listening?
